About us
My name is Massimo Antonelli, and I have dedicated my life to basketball, first as a player and now as a coach. Together, my partners and I have founded the non-profit association Tam Tam Basketball to generate a positive influence on the lives of the kids and on the development of the immigrant community with particular attention to social inclusion.
We want to offer young kids in need the opportunity to be involved in recreational sports for free. We also want to offer the kids free group and individual therapy.
Tam Tam Basketball was born from its founders’ passion of basketball. Most of our volunteers are all former players who wish to spread their passion to new generations. In the United States, there is a similar organization called “Giving Back Philosophy.” Basketball had an amazing influence on us growing up and we want to give back to the community.
Our organization lies in Castel Volturno, a 10 kilometer strip of coastline on the shore of Campania, Italy. Castel Volturno is a city with social struggles. It has the highest rate of non-EU citizens in Italy, most of which came from African countries and find it difficult to assimilate. Tam Tam helps the children of this poor African community who would otherwise not be able to practice sports.
Why Castel Volturno
The Village Coppola was originally designed to be a vacation spot for Neapolitans but shut down after the earthquake of Irpinia in 1980 and the two Bradyseisms in Pozzuoli in 1978 and 1983. Since then, it has become a refuge for displaced migrants who occupy the abandoned buildings, most of which are at risk of collapsing.
Over time the beautiful nature of these places was tarnished by human action, and now there is a strong presence of criminal organization that heavily affects the lives of locals: in Castel Volturno it’s never been easy for kids to play sports as a way of escape.
Right to dunk: a story of passion and participation
Our story has generated an extraordinary social movement and has been followed by passion from both national and international media, so much so that the Italian Parliament approved this law ad hoc.
Excerpt from the law of December 27 2017 Art. 1 Subsection 369, also known as the “Save Tam Tam Basketball Rule”
In order to allow the full and effective exercise of the right to practice sports referred to in letter e) “to guarantee the right to practice sports, which is an unsurpassable form of developing personalities for minors, through the creation of awareness campaigns”
Even if they are not in compliance with the rules on entry and stay, minors from third countries who have been registered for at least one year in the Italian school system can be registered with companies or associations affiliated with national sports federations, to associated sports disciplines and promotion bodies, and also to the Paralympics.
Today, on account of this law, over 80000 children of any race or color can practice any sport without limitations.

Nel settembre 2016, i soci Massimo Antonelli (presidente), Antonella Cecatto (vicepresidente), Pietro D'Orazio (direttore generale), Guglielmo Ucciero e Prospero Antonelli fondano TAM TAM BASKETBALL.

PARTE L'ATTIVITÀ SPORTIVA
Il 22 ottobre 2016 iniziano gli allenamenti nella palestra scolastica dell'istituto comprensivo "Pineta Mare" di Villaggio Coppola - iniziano in 15 ed in breve tempo si arriva a 30 ragazzi coinvolti.

ISCRIZIONE di 2 SQUADRE ai CAMPIONATI UISP
A gennaio iniziano le prime partite nei 2 campionati UNDER 14 e UNDER 12 con la UISP ente morale e sportivo.

ALLESTIMENTO CAMPO ALL'APERTO e TAM TAM DAY CAMP
Per mancanza della palestra scolastica, serviva alla scuola per i progetti pomeridiani, abbiamo allestito con nuovi impianti di pallacanestro un campo di playground dismesso.
A giugno 2017 abbiamo organizzato 2 settimane di day camp da lunedì al venerdì sotto un sole cocente... i ragazzi si sono divertiti molto e sono entrati in contatto per la prima volta con il mare. Lo abbiamo ripetuto l'anno successivo.

RISTRUTTURAZIONE E APERTURA PALAZZETTO
A settembre 2017, grazie ad una bella operazione di crowdfunding che ci ha permesso di coprirne in parte le spese, siamo riusciti a riaprire un palazzetto chiuso da 10 anni e quindi i nostri ragazzi oggi si allenano e giocano regolarmente in questa struttura molto confortevole.

NORMA SALVA TAM TAM BASKET
Premessa: i nostri ragazzi, tutti figli di stranieri, nonostante siano nati in Italia sono considerati stranieri. La federazione italiana pallacanestro (FIP) prevede che nei campionati giovanili non possono giocare più di 2 stranieri per squadra. Dopo la nostra estenuante battaglia a favore dei diritti allo sport dei nostri ragazzi abbiamo ottenuto prima una DEROGA e poi una norma legiferata al parlamento mutuata come "NORMA SALVA TAM TAM BASKET". La norma determina che tutti i ragazzi stranieri minorenni che vivono in Italia e ne frequentino le scuole da almeno un anno abbiano nello sport gli stessi diritti degli italiani. Il prossimo anno ne beneficeranno più di 800.000

PULMINO
Poiché il palazzetto è distante da dove vivono i ragazzi e anche perché gli allenamenti finiscono tardi abbiamo avuto il problema di far rientrare a casa i ragazzi in sicurezza e quindi abbiamo comprato un pulmino che con autista regolarmente li accompagna.
L'acquisto del pulmino è stato coperto interamente dalla campagna di crowdfunding

EVENTI e PARTITE SPECIALI - MATERIALI DONATI - PREMI
Sono state organizzate simboliche partite con la rappresentativa della Nazionale Magistrati e con quella della Comunità Cinese in Italia. Abbiamo partecipato a dibattiti sui diritti al gioco dei ragazzi nelle scuole. Ci hanno invitato anche ad assistere alle partite delle squadre di serie A campane. Da tutta Italia è giunto materiale sportivo usato e non e tanti libri a favore dei ragazzi.
A febbraio, abbiamo ricevuto ossia premi l'Oscar italiano del Basket & Solidarietà. A giugno invece abbiamo ricevuto il prestigioso Premio delle Culture di Ravenna per la nostra opera di integrazione dei ragazzi africani.
A settembre c'è stata una bella mostra fotografica di Carmen Sigillo sulla storia ed i ragazzi di TAM TAM.
NEXT
COLLABORAZIONI CON LE UNIVERSITÀ
A breve dovrebbe partire una collaborazione con le Università Federico II e la facoltà di Scienze Motorie di Napoli per lo studio su quanto la musica ed il ritmo influiscono sull'apprendimento e miglioramento motorio e tecnico nella pallacanestro. Una lab/factory che si avvale di tutto il know how di Massimo Antonelli con il suo MUSIC BASKETBALL METHOD.
