It was not easy to find a home for Tam Tam, and today it remains difficult to give these kids a safe and suitable space to practice basketball.
We started our adventure being hosted by the I.C. school Pineta Mare of Villaggio Coppola. This is where we began our first training sessions that allowed us to get to know one another before we knew what Tam Tam could become.
Since the school needed the gym for afternoon programs, we decided to move to an abandoned outdoor playground. We were scared we’d lose some of our kids with this new arrangement, but we were wrong, since even more kids started to join the team. They wanted to play, even when it was raining.
In June 2017 we planned 2 weeks of a DAY CAMP, Monday to Friday, under a burning sun… the kids had a lot of fun and some of them even saw the sea for the first time in their lives. Due to the success, we decided to repeat the camp the very next year.
There is still a long way to go to finish the building: the roof needs to be redone and a working electrical system needs to be put in place.
But Tam Tam aims to reach the top. Even now, we have a more ambitious project in mind: La Casa Tam Tam. La Casa Tam Tam will allow us to include more children and give the kids a proper and safe space to practice sports.
